P.O.W. #42:

Fundamentals

"Fear not those who argue but those who dodge." ~Marie Von Ebner Eschenbach

<<November 4, 2000>>

You take a deep breath and walk into the barn, specially prepared for today's duel. You shoulder an XXP 175 -- the CPS 1000 you wanted to use broke during the fight last weekend, and with it went your firepower advantage.

Images replay in your mind of times you'd watched this opponent fight.  He was quite an acrobat, he liked to jump and roll around a lot. He had entirely too much energy, and an uncanny accuracy with his quick potshots. You'd never seen him take careful aim. He usually stayed entirely out of sight and behind cover for long stretches of time, and then darted out, counting on speed and surprise, made an attack (usually strafing his target) and then finding a new haven.

There wasn't a whole lot of cover into the barn, you noted as you stepped into it. Several bales of hay were scattered about, but they were only about two feet high and hard to completely hide behind. There were some round wooden pillars stretching up to the ceiling, but they were only about three feet in diameter. The best hiding spot in the room was probably the small divisor wall closing off one corner, which was four feet high -- tall enough to hide behind but short enough to shoot over. Also probably considerably more of a nuisance to get over than the hay.

Your opponent enters from the opposite side of the barn and stands near the entrance to the isolated corner you've just finished examining. He holds a brand new XP 310 in his left hand, hanging down by his side. He grins malevolently in your direction.

"All ready?" he asks confidently.

You swallow and nod. "This should be pretty interesting.   I think it's about time to get started."

You hear the door behind you close, and the door your opponent entered through closes to a crack. A hand holding a bell extends through the gap.

The bell rings, the hand disappears, and the door closes.
